Harinezumi means needle rat. Hedgehogs are indeed prickly and can make little snorts and abrupt movements if you’re not gentle. The experience visiting a hedgehog cafe was more stressful than I expected! I am careful not to state this unless I am absolutely certain it’s true but…only in Tokyo! My research confirms that this is the first of its kind in the world. (You can also visit owl, bunny, snake, and your standard cat and puppy cafes in this often quirky metropolis.)
